Atheer, Al Jazeera’s digital platform, approached Epicstudios to produce a visually captivating vertical video featuring Mohamed Rammache, the well-known anchor of one of Atheer’s flagship podcasts. The objective was to create a short cinematic story that offered audiences an intimate look at Rammache’s daily routine, while also reflecting on his personal journey with Atheer.

Challenges:

  • Create a vertical, mobile-optimized short film that highlights Mohamed Rammache’s daily life and personal connection to Atheer.

    Project Scope


    Pre-Production:

    • Collaborated with Atheer’s team to define the tone, key moments, and message of the piece.

    • Scouted and selected diverse, visually interesting Parisian locations reflecting Mohamed’s real-life routine.

    • Developed a light narrative arc focused on Mohamed’s reflections, with key visual anchors like jogging in the early morning light, gardening in a calm courtyard, and walking along iconic Paris streets.


    Production:

    • Shot entirely in vertical format, optimized for social viewing.

    • Deployed cinema cameras and stabilizers to capture dynamic movement with smooth, high-quality visuals.

    • Used natural lighting and shallow depth of field to maintain an elegant, intimate aesthetic.

    • Conducted a casual on-the-go conversation with Mohamed, blending real moments with light direction to retain authenticity.


    Post-Production:

    • Delivered high-resolution vertical footage, lightly graded to maintain a natural but elevated visual tone.

    • Provided clean audio and synced visuals to enable easy integration into Atheer’s editing pipeline.

    • Ensured footage was optimized for mobile playback and social media compression standards.



    Results


    The final film was praised by Atheer for its warm tone, elegant cinematography, and authentic portrayal of one of their most recognized voices. The vertical format allowed for high engagement on mobile platforms, and the style successfully reflected the modern, human-centered identity of Atheer.



    Lessons Learned

    Vertical storytelling requires rethinking framing and composition to maintain visual elegance on mobile.

    Simple, everyday moments can be powerfully cinematic when approached with intention and the right gear.

    Authenticity beats over-direction—especially when the subject is already a familiar face to the audience.


    This project reinforced Epicstudios’ ability to translate brand identity into human stories, while mastering the art of mobile-first, vertical video production.
